Christian Historical Perspective

In document Mózes, a nép vezetője (Pldal 179-183)

The writing of Christian History is a Commandement of God. “You shall remember all the ways which the Lord your God has led you these forty years.”(Deuteronomy 8:2.) Christian historians have discovered many unknown events, and explained the mea-ning of those events through the illumination of the Holy Spirit.

However, as the secular historians, they have also discovered pre-viously unknwon events, and have explained the meaning of these events according to their own interpretation. The secular histori-an according his political or philosophical views may describe histori-and interprete historical facts manipulating the truth to serve the de-sired outcome of the ruling political party. The writing of the secular historian may totally eliminate the possibility of miracu-lous occurences. The question is: by whom is history advanced, are there visible or invisible powers?

The secular historian landscape of scientific discovery is con-stantly changing. Therefore the meaning or interpretation of the facts and events changes as well, according the geographical, histor-ical, cultural, political or social occurances. For example: on June 2.

1920 according to the Trianon Treaty, Hungary was divided into four pieces. Or question: who is responsible for this decision? Per-haps the Western-European powers? Or the Hungarian people, suffering at this time under communist rule? In 1919 the Com-munist Slogan was: “We killed our enemies on earth and we will destroy God in heaven.” In 1944, at the end of World War II the political slogan became: “Hungary was liberated from Facisim”, and at this moment became the slave of Russia. In 1956, the Hun-garian people wanted to slaver the tie with Russia, but the Russian army crushed the revolution, and the official communist Slogan became: “We have given back to the Hungarian people their peace and freedom.”

What was the direction of the church at this time? When the communists took over Eastern Europe, what did Hungarian church leaders decide to take between 1945 and 1949? The church said, we have “a new age, a free church in free State”. The compromise with the communists had begun.

Beginning in 1949 and continuing to 1955, the statement of Hungarian Church leaders said: “Because God so loved the world”

(John 3:16.), therefore the religious people must love the socialist country. They did not continue the Biblical verse, “whoever be-lieves in Jesus.” The Hungarian Renewal Movement began in 1955. At this time unified groups of confessional pastors pro-claimed: “Only Jesus Christ is the Redeemer, communism not!”

They corrected the false, official church doctrines. After the revo-lution, in 1957 many confessional pastors were persecuted by the state and the church. Some of these pastors were killed.

What occured in the Hungarian Church after the quiet Revo-lution of 1990? Initially, the focus of church activity was to un-cover who had collaborated with the communists. The result was zero; apparently these collaborators had disappearaed. Vanished.

The pastors became busy in an effort to discover a way to recover the nationalized church buildings and schools. Today the Hun-garian church officials are leaning towards modernism, globalism, culture, humanism, the green movement and intercontinental re-ligion, which says, all religions will be unified in one ecumenical movement excluding Jesus Christ, and we will be happy and there will be peace on earth.

There are numerous empty deceit explanation of occurances and changes in the churches and in the world. For example, the communist-materialist teaching stresses the importance of materi-al things. Romanticism emphasizes only some feelings. The libermateri-al historians teach the human rights. For others the main thing is money and richness. Newspaper reporters are writing sensational interpretations of current events. The egoistical historian desires to place himself as the central focus of events. The pessimist is in-different to God, church, nation, accumulation of money or

him-self. The egoist is only concerned also for himself, his feelings, pleasure and comfort.

The name for a believer in Christ is “Christian”. The name

“Christ” means: the anointed, authentic. The name “Christian”

can be found in three places in the Bible. To be a Christian means: believe in Hrist and follow Him. The essential confession, essential teaching of Christianity is: “Jesus Christ is Lord to the glo-ry of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:11.) The theme of Christian theology is to seek God and to discover who is the man, and what is his relataionship to God and men? Christian theology studies the Bible in the light of the revelation of the Holy Spirit. The question is not: “What is a man’s opinion of God”, the basic question is: “What kind of relationship exists between God and men, between the Creator and the created? What is God’s opin-ion of men?”

The Lord commands all Christians: “Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations. Ask your Father and He will show you, your elders and they will tell you.” (Deuteronomy 32:7.) The Christian historian knows and believes that all personal, communal, political, natural things may happen only with the permission of God. For exemple, God gave Job, who loved the Lord, over to the authority of Satan for a time permitted his suf-fering. A different situation was: Aaron who, while Mosese was up on Sinai montain receiving Ten Commandments, violated the will of God. Aaron was disobidient to Almighty God, made a golden calf and instructed Lord’s people to worship it.

In the New Testament the “Spiritual Israel” is the elected Christian church, which during its history has often rebelled against the will of God. The chosen people, the church, have fol-lowed fals doctrines, rather then trust in Him and to follow His word, giving glory to Jesus Christ, the King of Kings! God is pa-tient with His disobedient people for time of grace, but later the judgement will come. “When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of men, he fixed the bound of the peoples.” (Deuteronomy 32:8.)

In the Old Testament the name of God’s people is “Israel”, in the New Testament God’s chosen people are called “the body of Christ”, who by faith received Christ in their hearts as Saviour and Lord. God loves us, and declares in His word: “Are not two spar-rows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground without your Fater’s will. But even the hairs of your head are all num-bered. Fear not, therefore you are of more value than many sparrows.”

(Matthew 10:29-31.) Apostol Paul wrote: God “had sent me apart before I was born and had called me through his grace.” (Galatians 1:15.) Jesus propheted about future: Woe to all Pharisaers and priests, who killed the messengers of God, who preached the re-pentance. “O Jerusalem, Jereusalem, killing the prophets and stoning those who are sent to you! How often would I have gathered your child-ren together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not!” Your enemies “dash you to the ground and they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.” (Matthew 23:37. Luke 19:43-44.) The prophecy of Jesus was fulfiled in AD 70 when Cesar Titus de-stroyed the Holy City, burning the world famous tempel to the ground.

Christian historian and church members believe and confess the Lord Jesus, Who belessed us with love, peace and strength.

How can we understand and explain history? God answers by the wise King Salamon: “I know that whatever God does, endures for ever, nothing can be added to it nor anything taken from it. God has made it so in order that men should fear before him.” (Ecclesias-tes 3:14.)
