Codices primi pretiosissimique plane a comite Josepho Teleki, a coűditore Bibliothecae donati sunt. Teleki iam anno 1840 codicem authenticum Corvinianum donavit, Ludovici C a r b o n i s , illustris humanistae F e r r a r i e n s i s "Dialogum de Matthiae r e g i s laudibus, rebusque g e s t i s " complectentem (K 397). P r o x i m o anno hunc codicem quattuor secuti sunt, a c o m i t e Teleki dono dati. Quorum primus e s t grandé Lectionarium Salisburgiense (K 467), c i r c i t e r anno 1400 e x a r a t u s , cum 13 magnis atque 620 minoribus l i t t e r i s initialibus, in fronte marginibus decoratis praeditus, usque adhuc magnificentissimus codicum in Bibliotheca a s s e r v a t o r u m habetur. Codex secundus, nitidus Florentinusque o r a t i o n e s Leonis papae complecti- t u r , ornamentis albis r a m o r u m instar t o r t u o s i s d e c o r a t u s , cuius compactura contemporanea ex corio signaculis compaginatoriis i m p r e s s i s praedito arte r e n a - scenti Italica operata e s t (K 439). Is loco a r m o r u m insignium vacante antea codex Corvinianus erronee putabatur. B r e v i tempore post dona comitis T e l e k i , anno 1842 et 1844. a Josepho Lugossy, socio grammalico Academiae duo codices delati sunt, inornati sed haud neglegendi propter ea, quae in iis exstant. Quorum m a n u s c r i p t o r u m saec. XIV. astronomicorum alter e s t Alchabitii A r a b i s "Libellus isagogicus" Latiné redditus, a l t e r P s e u d o - P t o - lemaei " L i b e r iudiciorum" (K 437, K 440).
Anno 1858 comes Edmundus Zichy B r e v i á r i u m Romanum s a e c . XV. ex Italia ortum Academiae donavit (K 423). Non potest a c c u r a t e definiri, quo t e m p o r e et a quo donatum s i t , tarnen c i r c i t e r ab anno 1860 possidebat Bibliotheca "Codicem Nagyenyediensem" (K 32)[ 1] pretiosum, etiam monumentum linguae Hungaricae continentem, qui post bibliothecam Egidiopolitanam (Nagyenyed) anno 1849 dirutam s u p e r e r a t .

Römer omnia in Collectione Manuscriptorum a s s e r v a t a divisit in p a r t e s XVI, quarum una " L a t i n Codex" nominata e s t . Hoc nomen p r o p r i e non solum c o l l e c t i - onem codicum significat, sed etiam partem ad codices spectantia collectam. Nam p r a e t e r codices medii aevi etiam r e s c r i p t a codicum, aliquot manuscripta r e c e n - t i o r a et postea fragmenta hie deposita sunt. In r e s c r i p t i s maximi momenti e s t facsimile codicis Corviniani P a r m e n s i s Diomedis C a r a f a e [ 2 ] anno 1769 m a n u illuminalum exaratumque, quod iam t e m p o r e condendi in possessionem B i b l i o - thecae venit.
Sic d i v i s a p a r s "Latin Codex" exinde t a r d i u s augebatur. Collectio ab anno 1893 possidebat fragmentum codicis maximi momenti: turn Á r m i n Vámbéry, o r i e n t a l i s t a i l l u s t r i s fragmentum " B e l l i f o r t i s " Kyeseri ab Constantinopoli ablatum Academiae p e r m i s i t , quod Bibliotheca Corviniana a b r e p t a , anno 1526 eo devenisse s i n e dubio videtur. Hoc fragmentum continet descriptiones s t e l l a r u m errantium s y m b o l i c a s , Sigismundumque regem in illis descriptionibus in equo sedentem, ex quo e r r o n e e vocato "Liber de septem signis" imagines s a e p e productae sunt (K465).
Anno 1898 inclusa est Collectioni Manuscriptorum "Rhodiae urbis d e s c r i p t i o "
Caoursini (K 398). Hunc codicem chartaceum saeculi XV. exeuntis inornatum Anto- nius Szirmay donavit. Bibliotheca auteln codicem s a e c . XV. inornatum " M i s c e l l a - nea theologica" complectentem (K 454) anno 1912 emit. T u m primum Bibliothecam codicem e m e r e notum e s t .
His omnibus e n u m e r a t i s (sed r e s c r i p t i s , f r a g m e n t i s e t c . neglectis) ad v i c e s i - m o s annos s a e c . XX. codices ad summám XXVI Latini et III Germanici a Biblio- theca possidebantur. Valde haec summa codicum commutata est anno 1928, cum comes F r a n c i s c u s Vigyázó, unus bibliophilorum Hungaricorum i l l u s t r i s s i m o r u m bona Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae omnino t e s t a m e n t a l i t e r legavit, [3] etiam bibliothecam bibliophiliam 17000 tomos continentem. Inconsequentia deinde amplior facta e s t , postquam pho- tographiae codicum, immo vero duo Mexicani codices in facsimilibus editi hue p r o - venerunt. Itaque exceptis G r e g o r i a n i s - G e l a s i a n i s f e s t i s illis, quae prompta et sine proprietatibus ubique inveniri possunt, nomina in Kalendariis e n u m e r a t a non s e l e c t a , sed omnia p r o f e r o , f e s t a autem eminentia (rubris l i t t e r i s significata) lineam subter ducendo omnia ostendo. BEVEZETÉS
Az Akadémiai Könyvtár Kézirattárának sohasem tartozott speciális feladatai közé a magyar nyelvemlék-kódexeken kívül m á s kódexek gyűjtése. Mégis m á r s z i n - te a Könyvtár alapítása óta nagyszámú, é r t é k e s középkori kódex birtokába jutott, elsősorban magánszemélyek adományaiból.
Az első és legértékesebb adományok éppen a könyvtáralapító gróf Teleki J ó - zseftől s z á r m a z n a k . Teleki m á r 1840-ben egy hiteles korvinát adományozott, a h i - r e s f e r r a r a i humanista, Lodovico Carbone "Dialógus de Matthiae r e g i s laudibus, rebusque g e s t i s " - é t (K 397). Ezt követte a következő évben négy újabb k ó d e x - a j á n - déka. Ezek közül az egyik, egy 1400 táján k é s z í t e t t , nagyméretű salzburgi L e c - tionarium (K 467) 13 nagy é s 620 kisebb iniciáléval, elől díszes lapszélkerettel, m a i napig a könyvtár legszebb kódexe. A második Leo pápa beszédei, s z é p , f i r e n - zei, fehérindafonatos kódex, egykorú, vaknyomásos olasz reneszánsz bőrkötésben (K 439). Az ü r e s e n m a r a d t címerhelyet viselő kódexet korábban tévesen korvinának tartották. Teleki harmadik kódexe egy s z é p , XIV. századi Iustinianus (K 466), a n e - gyedik egy XV. századi Seneca (K 453). De Teleki-bélyegző van egy k e v é s s é d í s z e s , XV. századi Diurnale Patavienseben i s , ez valószínűleg még az alapítási anyagban került a könyvtárba.
Nem sokkal Teleki ajándékai után, 1842-ben és 1844-ben az Akadémia egy nyel- vész tagjától, Lugossy J ó z s e f t ő l érkezett két e g y s z e r ű , de tartalmilag é r t é k e s k ó - dex. Az egyik az arab Alchabitius latinra fordított " L i b e r isagogicus"-a, a másik egy Pseudo-Ptolemaeus " L i b e r iudiciorum", mindkét csillagászati munka XIV. s z á - zadi kézirat (K 437, K 440).
1858-ben gróf Zichy Ödön adott az Akadémiának egy XV. századi, itáliai B r e - viárium Romanum-ot (K 423). Pontosan n e m i s m e r t időpontban és meg n e m határoz- ható személytől, 1860 táján került a könyvtár birtokába az 1849-ben elpusztított nagyenyedi könyvtár egy é r t é k e s , fönnmaradt d a r a b j a , a magyar nyelvemléket is tartalmazó Nagyenyedi Kódex (K 32).[1]
Jelentős gyarapodás volt 1867-ben a Magyar Nemzeti Múzeum igazgatójának, a r é g é s z és politikus Pulszky Ferencnek adománya: egy XIII. századi f r a n c i a o r s z á g i Biblia (K 396), két gazdagon illuminált, ugyancsak f r a n c i a o r s z á g i hóráskönyv (az egyik, K 4 0 4 , 1400 táján készült; a m á s i k , K 429, 1485 körül Jean Colombe b o u r - gesi műhelyében) é s egy XV. századi itáliai P l u t a r c h o s - r é s z l e t Leonardus Brunus Aretinus és Iacobus Angelus fordításában (K 436).
Van azután néhány d a r a b , amelynek i d e k e r ü l é s é r ő l a régi k é z i r a t t á r i n y i l v á n - tartások hiányossága folytán nincs közelebbi adatunk, c s a k annyit tudunk m e g á l l a - pítani róluk, hogy h á r o m (K 448 Gordesio, K 445 é s K 446 L y r a egy-egy műve), m á r R ó m e r F l ó r i s k é z i r a t t á r o s s á g a (1861-1871) idején itt volt, m e r t a régi k a t a - lógus tanúsága szerint ő í r t a le ezeket; másik h á r m a t (két hóráskönyv: K 391, K 424 és egy Augustimus-kódex K442) pedig Jakab Elek í r t l e , amikor 1876 é s 1891 közt a K é z i r a t t á r egész állományát katalogizálta. Főleg a K 394 esetében s a j n á l a t o s a proveniencia-adat hiánya, m e r t ez a szépen illuminált, beneventumi í r á s s a l í r t zárai hóráskönyv az e g é s z gyűjtemény legrégibb kódexe,
R ó m e r volt az, aki a Kézirattár anyagát 16 szakban fölállította és ezek egyike kapta a "Latin Codex" n e v e t . Az elnevezés tulajdonképpen nem kódexgyűjteményt jelöl, hanem kódexekkel kapcsolatos szakcsoportot. E r e d e t i kódexeken kívül ugyan- is ide helyeztek szép s z á m m a l kódexmásolatokat, egy-két későbbi k é z i r a t o t , utóbb pedig töredékeket i s . A másolatok közt a legjelentősebb a p á r m a i Diomedes C a r a f a korvina[2] 1769-ben k é z z e l í r o t t - f e s t e t t f a c s i m i l é j e , amely még az alapítási anyag- gal került könyvtárunkba.
Az így fölállított " L a t i n Codex" szakcsoport ezután m á r csak lassan g y a r a p o - dott. 1893-ban egy nagyon értékes kódextöredék került a gyűjteménybe, amennyiben a neves o r i e n t a l i s t a , V á m b é r y Ármin átadta azt a K y e s e r " B e l l i f o r t i s " - t ö r e d é k e t , amelyet Konstantinápolyból hozott el é s amely minden bizonnyal a Corvina-könyvtár e l h u r c o l á s a k o r , 1526-ban került oda. Ez az a szimbolikus bolygóábrázolásokat, köztük Zsigmond király lovas alakját t a r t a l m a z ó t ö r e d é k , amelyből igen s o k s z o r közöltek m á r képeket tévesen "Liber de septem s i g n i s " név alatt (K 465).
1898-ban került a k é z i r a t t á r b a Caoursin "Rhodiae u r b i s d e s c r i p t i o " - j a (K 398).
A XV. század végén k é s z ü l t , egyszerű papírkódex S z i r m a y Antal ajándéka volt. 1912- ben pedig vásárolt a könyvtár (ez az e l s ő kódexvásárlás itt) egy XV. századi, e g y - s z e r ű "Miscellanea theologica" kötetet (K 454).
Mindezekkel együtt a XX. század húszas éveire az egész kódexállomány (nem számítva most a m á s o l a t o k a t , töredékeket s t b . ) még mindig nem tett ki többet, mint 26 latin és 3 német kódexet. Jelentősen megváltozott ez a helyzet 1928-ban, a m i k o r a legnagyobb magyar könyvgyűjtők egyike, gróf Vigyázó Ferenc a Magyar T u d o m á - nyos Akadémiára hagyta egész vagyonát [3] és vele együtt 17000 kötetet kitevő b i b - liofil könyvtárát. Ebben a könyvtárban volt 34 latin, 34 o l a s z , 4 német és 1 holland- nyelvű kódex. Közülük c s a k néhányat emelünk ki. A legrégibb egy XII. századi, s z e - rényen illuminált kötet, e l s ő felében bibliai szövegek, második felében Sulpicius S e - verus művei (K 395). Nem sokkal fiatalabb, a XIII. s z á z a d első feléből s z á r m a z i k egy s t r a s s b u r g i P s a l t e r i u m (K 400). A XIV. századból való egy gondosan írt é s illuminált f r a n c i a o r s z á g i Biblia (K 399). T a r t a l m i szempontból Aristoteles " L i b e r p h y s i c o r u m " - a a legjelentősebb. A n e m különösen d í s z e s , de szép humanista í r á s - sal írt kódex a " L i b e r physicorum"-nak r i t k a , A n d r e a s Bilius Mediolanensistől s z á r - mazó f o r d í t á s á t t a r t a l m a z z a (K 463).
A Vigyázó-adomány után újabb kódexek m á r csak k i s s z á m ú , szórványos v á s á r - lás útján kerültek a k é z i r a t t á r b a , de a kódex-gyűjtemény nagyobb számú töredékkel gyarapodott, amelynek egyik részét Paul Lehmann válogatta ki budapesti kutatásai alkalmával Knauz Nándornak a Kézirattárban ő r z ö t t , akkor még földolgozatlan h a -

gyatékából, m á s i k r é s z é t , hangjegyes kéziratokat T e l l e r Frigyes ugyanonnan 1941- ben.[4]
Mint láttuk, a "Latin Codex" szakcsoport kezdettől fogva meglehetősen követ- kezetlenül összeállított együttes volt. A z ű r z a v a r t még csak fokozta később az, a m i - kor kódexfényképek, sőt két mexikói kódex f a c s i m i l e - k i a d á s a is i d e k e r ü l t . Ez a hely zet akkor vált tarthatatlanná, amikor 1950 t á j á n az Akadémiai Könyvtár, illetve a Kézirattár ú j j á s z e r v e z é s e és új berendezésének elkészülte idején a legértékesebb kéziratok t e r m é s z e t e s e n az úgynevezett páncélszobában nyertek e l h e l y e z é s t . Ennek a helyiségnek k i s m é r e t e i nem engedték m e g , hogy csekélyebb é r t é k ű , kései kódex- másolatokat é s hasonlókat t á r o l j a n a k benne. Ezeket a Kézirattár m á s raktáraiban, m á s , új jelzetek alatt kellett elhelyezni. Ugyancsak kikerültek a " L a t i n Codex"-ek közül azok a darabok, amelyek a "Magyar Codexek" új felállításakor [5] é s a közép- kori német kéziratok országos katalógusának elkészítésekor[6] kerültek külön g y ű j - teménybe (K 32, K 532-540). A m e g m a r a d t latin kódexek is új jelzetet kaptak, a páncélszobában elhelyezett gyűjtemények K jelölésével é s még kiegészítettük néhány m á r meghatározott és részben publikált kódextöredékkel a K é z i r a t t á r T ö r e d é k g y ű j - teményéből, viszont áthelyeztük a Töredékgyűjteménybe azokat a " L a t i n Codex"-ek közt levő d a r a b o k a t , amelyek m é g meghatározatlanok! 7]. A Töredékgyűjtemény többszáz töredékének m e g h a t á r o z á s á r a m a j d csak a töredékek o r s z á g o s m e g h a t á r o - zási és publikálási akciója s o r á n , évtizedek külön munkájával kerülhet s o r . K é z i r a t - tárunk Töredékgyűjteményét ugyanis azon az alapon alakítottuk ki, hogy átmeneti őrző és r e n d e z ő helye legyen a főleg a k ö n y v r e s t a u r á l á s i munkálatok során e l ő k e r ü - lő nagymennyiségű töredéknek (akár k é z i r a t , akár nyomtatvány, az egy helyről k i - kerülő töredékek egy T jelzet alatt), hogy így véglegesen, megbízhatóan rögzítsük a későbbi meghatározó és kutatómunka s z á m á r a , hogy honnan, milyen együttesben k e - rültek elő a t ö r e d é k e k . Most egyelőre meg kellett elégednünk a "Latin Codex" g y ű j - temény katalógusának e l k é s z í t é s é v e l , ami m á r nagyon régóta a K é z i r a t t á r sürgető feladatai közé t a r t o z o t t . Hozzájuk csatoltuk még azt a 13 görög nyelvű töredéket i s , amely 1973-ben Moravcsik Gyula hagyatékaként került Kézirattárunkba és amelynek darabjait ő m á r publikálta (K 488 - K 500).[8]
Befejezésül még néhány m e g j e g y z é s t fűzünk katalógusunk elkészítésének mód- s z e r é h e z . Kódex-katalógusok e l k é s z í t é s é r e vonatkozólag nincs általánosan elfoga- dott m ó d s z e r , nemzetközi s z a b á l y z a t , sőt kialakult szokások is alig. Szinte minden katalóguskészítő a maga elgondolásait követi. így azután a katalógusok a legnagyobb változatosságot mutatják az e g y s z e r ű r e p e r t ó r i u m o k t ó l az olyan r é s z l e t e s l e í r á s i g , mint a bázeli Egyetemi Könyvtár kódexkatalógusa, amely szinte fölöslegessé igyek- szik tenni magának a kódexnek kézbevételét a kutató r é s z é r ő l . A m a g a m r é s z é r ő l a középutat igyekeztem választani. A f o r m á l i s leírásban lehető t e l j e s s é g r e t ö r e k e d - t e m , m á r c s a k a z é r t is, hogy a példány mindenkori épségét, vagy éppen esetleges m e g k á r o s í t á s á t , csonkítását ellenőrizni l e h e s s e n . A t a r t a l m i l e í r á s b a n úgy gondol- t a m , elegendő a tartalom lényegének v i s s z a a d á s a . Textológiai é r t é k e l é s s e l , szöveg- variánsok megállapításával nem foglalkoztam, m e r t szerintem ez m á r nem a katalo- g i z á l á s , hanem a filológia, textológia, i r o d a l o m - é s tudománytörténet, a kritikai kiadások k é s z í t é s é n e k feladata. A katalógus nem mentesíti a kutatót magának a kó- dexnek kézbevételétől, a benne s z e r e p l ő szövegekkel való foglalkozástól. A szöveg-
közlések i r o d a l m á r a , kézikönyveire is csak annyiban hivatkozom, amennyiben a s z e r z ő k és művek azonosításához szükséges volt.
Kötések esetében csak a k o r t , stílust, általános jelleget adom m e g . R é s z l e - t e z ő leírásnak nem sok értelmét l á t t a m volna, m e r t az reprodukció, vagy az egyes nyomóducok közlése nélkül úgy s e m sokat mondana. Főleg azonban a z é r t volt f ö l ö s - l e g e s , m e r t készülőben van a Könyvtár összes t ö r t é n e t i kötéseinek tudományos f ö l - dolgozása és közlése (Rozsondai Marianne munkájával). Vízjeleket csak annyiban adok, ha a meghatározáshoz m á s , szilárdabb támpont nem volt, m e r t a vízjel r i t - kán ad csak megbizható adatot a k é z i r a t készítési helyének (papírkereskedelem!) é s idejének pontosabb m e g h a t á r o z á s á h o z .
A liturgikus könyvek (és azok m i n t á j á r a a hóráskönyvek) l e í r á s á n á l Radó P o - l i k á r p [ 9 ] m ó d s z e r é t követtem. T e h á t az általánosan mindenhol meglevő s így j e l - legtelen gregoriánus-gelasianus ünnepek kivételével a kalendáriumok neveit t e l j e - s e n , nem csak válogatva közlöm, t e r m é s z e t e s e n mindenhol feltüntetve (aláhúzás- s a l ) a kiemelt (vörös betűs) ünnepeket. Főleg a hóráskönyvek rendkívül nagy v á l - tozatossága és a bennük található kalendáriumok sokfélesége indokolja ezt. Az ö n - kényes egyéni válogatást, hogy t i . én mit tartok éppen fontosnak, nem tartottam helyénvalónak. T e r m é s z e t e s e n a datáláshoz fölhasznált nevekről szólok a "Meg- jegyzések" rovatban. Ezen a t é r e n tehát eltérek az újabban általában szokásosabb gyakorlattól.
