4. The Moscow Gold (Spanish: Oro de Moscú), or alternatively Gold of the Republic (Spanish: Oro de la República), was 510 tonnes of gold, corresponding to 72.6% of the total gold reservesof the Bank of Spain, that were transferred from their original location in Madrid to the Soviet Union a few months after the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. This transfer was made by order of the government of the Second Spanish Republic, presided over by Francisco Largo Caballero, through the initiative of his Minister of Finance, Juan Negrín. The term also encompasses the subsequent issues relating with the gold’s sale to the USSR and the use of the funds obtained. The remaining fourth of the Bank’s gold reserves, 193 tonnes, was transported and exchanged into currency in France, an operation which is also known by analogy as the „Paris Gold”.

More broadly, the term „Moscow Gold” has its origin in anti-Soviet propaganda which used the term to discredit the supposed financial support of western trade unions and political parties of Communist ideologies.

A második két nyelven beszél, egyrészt hangsúlyozza, hogy a Szovjetunió volt az egyetlen ország, amelyik fegyverszállításokkal megmentette a Köztársaságot, de mintegy vádként említi meg, hogy fizettetett érte.

A harmadik pont az első aranyszállítás időpontját adja meg, majd közli, hogy ezt további szállításokkal a fél aranytartalékra emelték, és megadja a szállítások 35 USD/uncia áron kalkulált értékét: 578 millió USD.

A negyedik pont egyrészt magyarázza a Moszkva Aranya kifejezés értelmét (majd a Párizs Aranyáét is), másrészt megnevezi a döntéshozókat (miniszterelnök és pénzügy-miniszter), megadja a teljes szállítmány súlyát (510 tonna), és arányát az aranytartalékból (72,6%), közli, hogy a fogalom magában foglalja az arany értékesítését és felhasználását is. A maradék 193 tonnát Párizsba szállították és eladták, ezzel ürült ki a tartalék.
