TÁMOP 4.1.3 Video conference booking system

Dévai Tamás <dorion@niifhu>

N1IF Intézet

The new booking system is going to replace the former MCU booking application on the video conference portal. It is needed because the actual code of the portal is outdated and slightly maintained.

A fundamental design concept is that we separated the code into two parts. The first part is the MCU API that hides the vendor-specific communication, while the second part is the user interface implemented as a Drupal module. Nevertheless we cannot cease elaborating the design principles here, as we would like to have the code to be more usable, easy to change and more straightforward to maintain. Therefore the open source development has bacome a valid option as anyone can freely contribute to it and distribute it.

The first part of the code is the API that does the hardware vendor-specific communication transparently to the UI. Though uniformization of the different interfaces means loosing vendor-specific functionality, it is worth doing since the user experience that they do not need to learn a new interface every time the hardware changes will compensate us.

There are obvious advantages of implementing the system as a Drupal module. For example the authentication and authorization can be configured using Drupal Shibboleth, and also the whole system can be integrated into the generic portal in a fancy way. Also a wider user base can access the application and more contributors can help us in the code development and in the bug fixing.

Resource Registry

Frank Tamás <tamas.frank@niifhu>

NIIF Intézet

The Resource Registry is a tool to manage information about Resources and Flome Organizations participating in Hungarian Research & Education Federation. Based on the information collected, it generates the Federation Metadata file for the entites and it helps to configure the IdPs or SPs by generating the config files (or templates) which are almost ready to use.

Bajnok Kristóf <bajnokk@niifhu>

NIIF Intézet

Authenticating users and managing access control data is critical for every institution. The presentation gives an overview of the different approaches of Identity Management and describes the benefits of Federated Identity and Access Control Management.

Synchronizing data between the Neptun system and identity directories

Lantos Adóm <adam.lantos@niif.hu>

NIIF Intézet

In order to build the Hungarian Research and Education Federation, we need to tackle various issues of the current identity management practices in many of the universities. The most hindering problem is the missing ability to exchange data between student information systems (most notably the Neptun, which is the most widespread one in Hungary) and institutional identity repositories.

Our talk will present a new synchronization software developed by NIIF Institute, which will enable the universities to query a newly designed Neptun webservice for various personal and educational data, and to transform and load these entries into directory servers. This synchronization will keep the identity information up to date and thus enabling these institutions to build upon their directories.

Enabling Single Sign-on access to webmail softwares

Lantos Adám <adam.lantos@niif.hu>

NIIF Intézet

As institutional web single sign-on systems gain traction, allowing users to access web-based email systems via their SSO session becomes a great demand. Unfortunately, webmail softwares need user passwords in order to have access to the IMAP or POP-based email accounts.

This presentation will focus on some methods and software components which will allow webmail systems and IMAP or POP-based email servers to rely on WebSSO infrastructures in order to achieve a seamless single sign-on experience.

This lecture is a brief introduction into the SAML based SSO system at the University of Debrecen. It shows the origins, its history, the applications built upon it, the mechanisms working in the background. In addition to these, in the focus of the lecture are some e- leaming related applications, such as local Moodle learning environments of various departments and faculties, e-portfolio systems, and services of the library (e.g. DSPACE).

Naturally there is SAML in the background of all of these applications.

Virtualization sorrounds us in all walks of life. A incident carried on over a virtual network is caught by a virtual firewall, our data stored on virtual disks is saved to a virtual tape.

This tutorial is about virtualization of the whole base infrastructure, and about how to create a coherent and easily usable whole product. During the turorial a few network, storage and server virtualization solutions are discussed, which make work more easier, which increase reliability and availability, and which decrease maintenence costs.

Please be noted, that the tutorial will be held in Hungarian, if you might not be proficient enough in this language you can still meet us at the Networkshop and raise your questions after the tutorial or during the other day's sessions' breaks.

Open Access

Karácsony Gyöngyi <gyk@Jib.unideb.hu>

Debreceni Egyetem Egyetemi és Nemzeti Könyvtár

Open Access (OA) was born in Hungary with the Budapest Open Access Initiative in February 2002. Still that year, OA left the country and has not returned. The Tutorial aims to give an overview of the history and rationale of the concept, analyze stakeholders, enumerate national and international projects. Tha practical session gives a direct experience on preparing OA advocacy presentation, and on the process of depositing documents to a repository.
