Introduction

Genetic evaluation

– Based on BLUP in most domesticated species – First application in pig:

Hudson and Kennedy (1985)

– In Hungary its application is

compalsory from 2008

• Purebred and crossbred data

(3)

Material

• Field test data of Pietrain (5717), Duroc (4868) and their cross (4728)

• Data from 1998 to 2010 from 68 herds

• Pedigree was available from 1983 (60926)

• Traits

Lean meat percentage (LMP) – Age (AGE)

– Average daily gain (ADG)

(4)

M ethod

• Bivariate animal models

• Fixed effects

– Year month – Sex

– Genotype – Herd

• Random effects

– Animal – Litter

(5)

Methods

•Genetic trend decomposition

Genetic trends for ADG and LMP were 0.4 g/day and -0.004 %,

Partitioning of the genetic trend by genotype for average

daily gain (g/day) (10, Duroc;12, Pietrain; 34, Pietrain ×

Duroc)

Partitioning of the genetic trend by genotype for lean meat percentage (%) (10, Duroc;12, Pietrain; 34, Pietrain × Duroc)

Conclusions

• Observed progress in both traits was low

• As selection is now based on BLUP

increased genetic trends are expected in the future

• Application of trend decomposition is advocated for the different crosses

the majority of the genetic risk for Paget’s disease of bone is explained by genetic variants close to the CSF1, oPtn, tm7SF4, and tnFrSF11a genes. Genome-wide association

Compared to the data measured at the live weight of 60 kg, further intensive growth was found by the meat-type pigs, resulting in a lean meat percentage and muscle to

(2003) reported increased incidence of veinig defect with increased lean meat percentage and prolonged lairage time in Italian heavy pigs.. On the other hand

Due to the very small data size, the genetic parameters of the backfat depth were estimated for the Hungarian Large White dataset.. Then with the help of these parameters,

It was concluded that although significant differences existed in backfat and muscle thickness between the pig carcass weight groups, lean percentage predicted or established

The analysis of genetic variability and the estimation of its possible loss could be assessed using different criteria mainly based on pedigree information, anyway in sheep breeding

− Dissection, as the only objective and referent method, has classified only 4.69% of the pig carcasses into quality class S, whereas the other two methods of lean meat

The results (Table 2) show cold carcass weights and composition of Turopolje pig breed and some production types (fatty type Mangalitsa and meat – fatty type Black Slavonian breeds
