„Az anyatejjel az olasz nyelvet is magamba szívtam, előbb beszéltem olaszul, mint magyarul. Így lettem később tolmácsa édesanyámnak, aki csak nehezen tanult meg magyarul.” Csíkszentmihályi Róbertnek az olasz nyelv valóban anyanyelve. A Nemzet Művésze, a Kossuth-díjas szobrászművész Fiuméban született. Gyerekkori élményei egész életét végigkísérték.
1963-ban, még főiskolás korában milánói rokonainak támogatásával Circolareval beutazta az országot Milánótól Szicíliáig. Gyakran a vonaton aludt, hogy a következő nap már egy újabb itáliai város szépségét fedezhesse fel. Ez a tanulmányút meghatározta művészetének alakulását.
Csíkszentmihályi Róbert bár Szentendrén, a Duna-menti kisvárosban él és dolgozik, szabad idejében gyakran utazik Itáliába. Szobrai és emlékművei nemcsak Magyarországon, de Milanóban, Rómában, Velencében, Narniban, Nápolyban és más olasz városokban is őrzik nevét.
A dokumentumfilm a 21. századi magyar szobrászat egyik kiemelkedő művészét, műveit, Itáliával összeforrott művészetszemléletét mutatja be. Látjuk Csíkszentmihályi Róbertet Szentendrén és Olaszországban, munka közben, követjük a művek születését, az anyag formai, természeti, gondolati metamorfózisát.

“Ho succhiato la lingua italiana con il latte materno, ho parlato in italiano prima ancora che in ungherese.
Fu così che diventai in seguito l’interprete di mia madre, che faceva molta fatica a imparare l’ungherese.”
L’italiano è davvero la lingua materna di Róbert Csíkszentmihályi. Lo scultore, insignito del titolo di Artista della Nazione (A Nemzet Művésze) e del premio Kossuth, è nato a Fiume. Le esperienze vissute nella sua infanzia lo hanno accompagnato per tutta la vita.
Nel 1963, quando era ancora studente, con il sostegno dei suoi parenti milanesi viaggiò per tutta l’Italia, da Milano alla Sicilia, con un biglietto ferroviario circolare. Dormiva spesso in treno per poter scoprire il giorno dopo le bellezze di una città italiana. Questo viaggio di studio ha influito in maniera determinante sull’evoluzione della sua arte.
Pur vivendo e lavorando a Szentendre, cittadina in riva al Danubio, durante il suo tempo libero Róbert Csíkszentmihályi si reca spesso in Italia. Le sue statue e i suoi monumenti si possono ammirare non solo in Ungheria, ma anche a Milano, a Roma, a Venezia, a Narni e a Napoli.
Il documentario presenta un protagonista di rilievo della scultura ungherese del XXI secolo, le sue opere e la sua concezione artistica strettamente legata all’Italia. Vedremo Róbert Csíkszentmihályi a Szentendre e in Italia, impegnato nel suo lavoro, seguiremo la nascita delle opere, la metamorfosi formale, naturale e concettuale della materia.

“I drank the Italian language in with my mother’s milk. I spoke Italian before I spoke Hungarian. That is how I later became my mother’s interpreter, who always had great trouble with the Hungarian language.”
Italian really was Róbert Csíkszentmihályi’s mother tongue. This award-winning sculptor was born in Fiume and his childhood experiences have stayed with him throughout his entire life.
It was first in 1963 that, with support from his relatives in Milan, he travelled around Italy by rail from Milan to Sicily often sleeping on the train in order to fully enjoy the beauty of the next exciting stop on his tour. This time spent in Italy in his youth had a defining role in shaping his work as a sculptor.
Róbert Csíkszentmihályi lives and works in the sleepy town of Szentendre on the banks of the Danube but is still a regular visitor to Italy and his works can be found all over Hungary but also in Milan, Rome, Venice, Narni, Naples and a number of scenic spots throughout Italy.
This documentary film shows the life and work of one of Hungary’s leading sculptors of the 21st century and his artistic attachment to Italy. We see Róbert Csíkszentmihályi in Szentendre and also in Italy, and watch him as inert materials metamorphose under his skilled sculptor’s hand.
