1 THE TEKH SPECIAL COLLEGE

The final goal of the TEKH is to provide the talented students with substantial excess knowledge over the standard curricula, help them joining to research teams and get professional contacts, participate in exploration and research works. Our expectation is to build modern well-trained co-operative and creative teams, which will be capable to work on the challenging tasks of the research and development in the fields of engineering applications related to natural resources. The Faculty of Earth Science and Engineering and the Hungarian professional communities provide excellent possibility to realize these objectives. Important social goals, like the modernization and renewal of the scientific capacity dedicated to the research of ore natural resources are also fulfilled through the activities of the College.

The TEKH Special College has successfully completed year 2018, which was the first full year in the life of the College. In the last two semesters (2017/18 spring and 2018/19 autumn semester) there were a lot of professional programs for which TEKH was co- organizer. In its own program schedule invited lectures of experienced professionals, alumni and SH students were held and a three-day short course was organized. Furthermore, a website (http://mfk.uni-miskolc.hu/~tekh/) and a facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/szakkollegium/) were also prepared in order to inform the members about the news in an appropriate and modern way. The English version of the website is in progress.

5 TEXPRESS PROJECT

The Special College has successfully applied and won the NTP-18-SZKOLL government grant, with 2,3 M forints support for the TEXPRESS activities, which last for one year starting from July 2018.

The main goal of TEXPRESS project is to give theory and practice of natural resources and their utilization to the members beyond university level. Also aim of the project is to promote these disciplines asnd professions to high school students. Moreover, beside individual research works, also a goal is to improve teamwork abilities with different research projects and competition preparations made in smaller groups.

The TEXPRESS project plans among others, two short courses, and presentations of professionals with outstanding excellence (OLDTIMER) and recently graduated young talents (ALUMNI).

The details of the project are posted on the website.

6 PROGRAMOK/PROGRAMS

COAL ALTERNATIVES SHORT COURSE

The short course was organized in the frame of the NTP-18-SZAKKOLL winning TEXPRESS project.

The three-day event (19-21 November 2018) was sponsored by TEKH Special College, Faculty of Earth Science and Engineering (University of Miskolc), MBFSZ, MTA MAB, Hungarian Geological Society, Ormosszén Ltd., University of Pécs and University of Debrecen.

(8)

12 TEKH students and 5 participants from the area of industry and education took part. During the short course, the presenters showed the results of the recently ended national coal project, and additional lectures were also presented. All in all, 11 presentations were held during the two days.

After the first day presentations, the field trip was on Tuesday. The participants visited the outcrop of a coal sequence in Köpüs Valley, near Miskolc, the coal classifier and open pit mine at Felsőnyárád, and the outcrops of the upper Pannonian lignite sequence at the gypsum mine of Alsótelekes. The final program of the day was the Mining History Museum in Rudabánya.

At the third day, the

presentations were about

technological questions, such as mine planning models, coal preparation, coal gasification, fly ash utilization and economic evaluations.

(9)

ASIA DAY

During the Asia Day, which was held on the 25th October 2018, the presenters (Mohammad Nur Ali Akbar,

MSc Petroleum

Geoengineering student;

Medet Junussov, PhD student and Jenő Csongrádi, economic geologist) talked about the geology and

explorations of Indonesia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia. The topics were the hydrocarbon production ability and geochemical characteristics of black shales, and experiences of Mongolian explorations. Dr Csongradi was invited in the frame of the OLDTIMER scheme.

25 participants formed the audience. The lectures are posted on the website.

(10)

AFRICA DAY

Three lectures from Africa were presented on the Africa Day, which was held on 17th December 2018. Valerie Wendo, a graduate of the University of Nairobi in Environmental and Biosystems Engineering, with two years work experience in the Irrigation Engineering sector and currently a final year MSc student at the University of Miskolc gave an insight about groundwater problems in Kenya.

Stephen Okon is a petroleum production engineer and at the same time, an environmental activist. He had B.Eng degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Uyo, Nigeria, and experience as a quality assurance and quality control intern at MOL Hungary. Currently, he is a final year Masters student of Petroleum Engineering in the University of Miskolc. He talked about the hydrocarbon related pollution problems in the Niger Delta.

The last presenter was László Kupi, a graduated geologist from ELTE Budapest and former PhD student at the University of Miskolc, now an independent consultant geologist, lectured about a gemstone exploration program in Rwanda.

The audience was from Hungarian and foreign students and professors of Miskolc, as well as, several professionals outside of the university, with rich African working experience.

7 TEAMWORK

The college emphasizes to development of teamwork in the professional research, and research teams are organized from volunteering students. The product of the last year's effort is the report below.

TELKIBÁNYA RESEARCH REPORT

The College organized its first field trip last year from 29th September to 1st October 2017 at Telkibánya. The data

(11)

were subsequently processed and a research report created in the first half of 2018. This report is available on the link below:
