Professor Laszlo Kalmar

Research Group on Mathematical Logic and Theory of Automata Hungarian Academy of Sciences Somogyi Bela u. 7

Szeged, Hungary

Dear Professor Kalmar:

Michael Arbib has sent me a copy of your letter of June 20th, which mentions my proposed "FORTRAN ENGINE"

project of some years ago. Unfortunately, although we spent some time in preparation, the University of Massachusetts was not in a position to support industrial (as opposed

to governmental or institutional) research. One of these days we will attempt to get funding support again.

In the meantime, I have been following the formal definition work of Peter Lucas, et. al., of IBM Vienna.

In fact, I shall be in Budapest in October, at the invitation of the Bolyai Janes Mathematical Institute, to discuss this work.

I should appreciate the opportunity to meet with you at this time and to discuss common projects.
