Introduction

English B2-C1 Exam Preparation is an online course material available at http://www.lingo.u- szeged.hu/e-learning. It is intended for language learners who are preparing for B2 or C1 level language examinations in English. It contains interactive tasks that can be completed online and speaking tasks that are best done with a partner in a class. The material also features a collection of Tips and Useful language pages, which provide guidelines and useful phrases for the different types of writing and speaking tasks in language tests.

Registration and logging in

Create a user account at the following link: http://www.lingo.u-szeged.hu/e- learning/user/register.

If you are taking a language course with the University of Szeged Foreign Language Centre, please provide real and accurate data in the Real name and Neptun code fields so that your instructor can identify you on the site. If you do not have a user account in the Neptun Student Information System, leave the relevant field blank.

If you use the website as a student of the University of Szeged Foreign Language Centre and have already registered for a course in Neptun, in the Group membership field, select the group corresponding your course that you would like to join. If you can’t find your course in the list, please get in touch with your instructor. You can also join a group after you first log in. If you are not a student of the Foreign Language Centre, select none.

Click on the Create new account button to complete your registration.

After registration, you will be notified in email about the creation of your account and will be given instructions on how to log in.

Clicking on the link in the confirmation email leads you to a one-time login page.

The first time you log in, you have to set a password for your account.

Save your password by clicking on the Save button at the bottom of the form.

Your user profile page

After logging in, you will see your profile page with the following tabs: View, Edit, Groups, Results, Likes, User feedback, Badges.

The View tab shows your user profile information.

The Edit tab lets you edit your account and user profile information.

The Groups tab shows the groups that you are a member of. (See the next section to learn how to join a group.)

The Results tab shows your results for the interactive tasks that you have completed. (See the section Viewing your results for more information about this tab.)

The Likes tab shows the pages you have liked.

The User feedback tab shows the pages that you have submitted user feedback forms for.

The Badges tab shows the badges that you have earned.

Joining a group

If you didn’t join a group on registration, find the group(s) that you would like to join by clicking on the Groups link in the top menu. (Join a group only if you are taking a course of the same title at the University of Szeged Foreign Language Centre.)

At the end of the row for the selected group, click on the Subscribe button.

On the next page, enter an optional message to the group manager (your instructor), then click on Join. Your instructor will be notified in email about your request and will update your membership.

Your membership status has to be Active for you to have access to group features and for your instructor to be able to view your

Browsing the content of the site

Use the top menu links to browse the content of the website: Tasks, Tips, Useful language.

Under Tasks, you will find interactive tasks that you can complete online, and speaking tasks that are best done with a partner in a class.

Use the filters to narrow your search by topic, skill, task type, or the title of the task.

Click on the links in the Title column in the table to navigate to the task pages.

When you visit a task page, you will see the following section, which shows where you are in the book hierarchy of the website.

Use the links to navigate to higher levels in the hierarchy.

When you first visit an interactive task page, you will see a message informing you that you haven’t completed the task yet.

After you submit your answers, your result for the task will appear here the next time you visit the page or after you refresh it.

The Tags section shows information about the page that you are viewing.

Next, you will find the interactive task.

Some pages have sections entitled Related tips and useful language and Related speaking tasks, which show you lists of pages related to the one you are viewing.

Under Like this page, click on the thumb up icon to like the page. This way, you can save the page for yourself as well as recommend it to other users.

The links in the following section allow you to navigate to the previous page, the next page or one level up in the book hierarchy of the website.

Fill in the User feedback form to send us feedback about the given page.

As of September 2020, you can earn badges by solving interactive tasks with maximum points, liking pages, and submitting user feedback forms.

Viewing your results

Go to your account page by clicking on your account name under the search box at the top.

Click on the Results tab to view a summary of your results.

You can filter your results based on topic, skill or task type.

You can also check which tasks you haven’t completed or visited yet.

Extra features

The Top scores page, available from the top menu, lists the best 10 scores on the website reached since September 2018.
