James Hankins (Philadelphia, 1955) is a graduate of Duke University in Classics (1977) and Columbia University in HIstory (1984). At Columbia Hankins studied with Paul Oskar Kristeller, for whom he also worked as a research assistant. Hankins has taught at Harvard University since 1985. He is an historian of philosophy and political thought, the author of numerous books and articles, and the recipient of many fellowships and awards. He is perhaps best known as the founder and General Editor of the I Tatti Renaissance Library, a bilingual text series, which will publish its 60th volume in the fall of 2013.
