1 Memorandum of Understanding

between

and Bard College

With the present Memorandum of Understanding, Central European University (CEU) agrees to establish educational activities in New York State in co-operation with Bard College. This memorandum reflects already established educational collaboration between Bard College and the Central European University.

This Memorandum of Understanding does not preclude other agreements that CEU may enter into with other partners to conduct educational activities in New York State.

This Memorandum has been ratified by the Bard Board of Trustees on September 8, 2017, and by the CEU Board of Trustees on September 8, 2017.

Both CEU and Bard College are chartered by the Board of Regents of the State of New York, the highest educational authority in the State of New York, which also registers all CEU and Bard College degree programs. The Board of Regents of the State of New York and the Middle States Commission on Higher Education have been formally notified of the present Memorandum and both CEU and Bard College undertake to ensure that all programs will comply with the necessary accreditation and regulatory requirements.

1. Facilities.

Bard College will provide CEU a building, Wilson House, on Bard’s main campus in

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY 12504, to enable CEU to manage its day-to-day operations in the U.S. There will be a CEU representative on the Bard campus.

2. Joint Educational Activities.

CEU will conduct the following educational activities in the U.S., in collaboration with Bard:

• Integrated B.A.–M.A. and B.A.–M.S. degree programs in the areas of social sciences, humanities, environmental science, and policy and law. These

2 integrated programs will take place in New York State (Annandale-on-Hudson and New York City) and Hungary (Budapest).

• Curricula for the degrees programs and admissions and graduation requirements will be established jointly by CEU and Bard College.

• CEU will offer classes in collaboration with the Bard Globalization and

International Affairs Program (BGIA) at Bard’s facility in New York City. CEU students will benefit from internships organized in New York City as part of BGIA’s and CEU's internship programs.

• CEU M.A. and doctoral students, under the oversight of CEU faculty, will conduct research at Bard Graduate Center for Decorative Arts, Design History, Material Culture in New York City.

• CEU doctoral students, post-doctoral fellows, and faculty members will

teach courses and conduct research at the Levy Economics Institute and in the Levy Institute’s M.S. in Economic Theory and Policy degree program on Bard’s

Annandale-on-Hudson campus.

• CEU doctoral students and post-graduate fellows will have teaching fellowships at institutions in the Bard College network, which offer Bard College degrees

registered by the New York State Education Department and are included under Bard College’s institutional accreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. These teaching fellows will undergo training by the CEU in collaboration with Bard College and the Bard Institute of Writing and Thinking, based in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.

• This Memorandum of Understanding has been approved by the Board of Trustees of CEU and the Board of Trustees of Bard College and is executed pursuant to the authority vested in the signatories by the Board of Trustees of Central European University and the Board of Trustees of Bard College.

• This agreement take effect on September 8, 2017, in a manner consistent with all accreditation and regulatory requirements.
